Memorial Gymnasium & Tim Heimann Court

Memorial GymnasiumMemorial Gymnasium was built in 1950 as a cooperative effort between Galesburg business leaders and Knox College to honor World War I and II veterans. The gym's maple floor is ideal for varsity basketball and volleyball, as well as intramural sports, and the facility has the largest seating capacity in the Midwest Conference. The gym features six basketball hoops, two basketball courts, and three volleyball courts.

Renovated in the spring and summer of 2016, Memorial Gym is equipped with modern amenities while also maintaining its integrity and vintage feel. Fundraising efforts were spurred by the generosity of Duke '74 and Nancy Petrovich, who provided half of the renovation cost. Other six-figure leadership donors to the renovation were Tom '66 and Sue Fuerst Anderson '71.

Enhancements to the gym included:

  • New HVAC system
  • Walls painted one consistent color
  • New wood bleachers that are auto-tracking for ease of movement
  • Sound system upgrades
  • Scoreboard upgrades
  • New banners and logo
  • New scorer's table with modern hookups

The lobby area features:

  • Rubber flooring to match the E. & L. Andrew Fitness Center lobby
  • Redesigned, retrofitted, and accessible men's and women's restroom facilities
  • An upgraded concession stand

The court was dedicated Tim Heimann Court in April of 2008 in honor of longtime head men's basketball coach Tim Heimann, a 1970 Knox graduate. Read more about the renovations and the dedication of Tim Heimann Court here.
